The apartment building, originally constructed in 1928 as the Medico-Dental Building and converted into apartments into the late 1980s, is an Art Deco masterpiece. I’ve tried to capture some of its beauty with the photos on this page.</p></albumComment><photo name="The Big Picture" date="2002-03-11T13:28:10Z"><comment><p>This photo, taken from the south-east corner of 6th and Santa Clara, shows the building in all its glory. The architect, William Weeks, was <i>very</i> prolific, designing numerous buildings up and down the west coast of the US. Erica and I were walking in Tacoma a few years back and saw a building that looked just like ours. Some investigations revealed that it too was a William Weeks medico-dental building that had been converted to city offices.</p></comment><image kind="original" src="originals/IMG_0836.JPG" srcURL="originals/IMG_0836.JPG" srcname="IMG_0836.JPG" size="776232" sizeText="0.7 MB" type="image"></image><image kind="image" src="images/IMG_0836.JPG" srcURL="images/IMG_0836.JPG" srcname="IMG_0836.JPG" size="776232" sizeText="0.7 MB" type="image" width="1600" height="1200"></image><image kind="thumbnail" src="thumbnails/IMG_0836.jpg" srcURL="thumbnails/IMG_0836.jpg" srcname="IMG_0836.jpg" size="33177" sizeText="32.4 KB" type="image" width="300" height="225"></image></photo><photo name="Main Entrance" date="2001-04-01T07:22:20Z"><comment><p>This picture shows the building entrance from across Santa Clara St.</p></comment><image kind="original" src="originals/IMG_0826.JPG" srcURL="originals/IMG_0826.JPG" srcname="IMG_0826.JPG" size="371688" sizeText="0.4 MB" type="image"></image><image kind="image" src="images/IMG_0826.JPG" srcURL="images/IMG_0826.JPG" srcname="IMG_0826.JPG" size="371688" sizeText="0.4 MB" type="image" width="1200" height="1600"></image><image kind="thumbnail" src="thumbnails/IMG_0826.jpg" srcURL="thumbnails/IMG_0826.jpg" srcname="IMG_0826.jpg" size="27152" sizeText="26.5 KB" type="image" width="225" height="300"></image></photo><photo name="Main Entrance Close Up" date="2001-04-01T07:18:28Z"><comment><p>This is a close up of the main entrance, showing some of the intricate stone work.</p></comment><image kind="original" src="originals/IMG_0828.JPG" srcURL="originals/IMG_0828.JPG" srcname="IMG_0828.JPG" size="365008" sizeText="0.3 MB" type="image"></image><image kind="image" src="images/IMG_0828.JPG" srcURL="images/IMG_0828.JPG" srcname="IMG_0828.JPG" size="365008" sizeText="0.3 MB" type="image" width="1200" height="1600"></image><image kind="thumbnail" src="thumbnails/IMG_0828.jpg" srcURL="thumbnails/IMG_0828.jpg" srcname="IMG_0828.jpg" size="26333" sizeText="25.7 KB" type="image" width="225" height="300"></image></photo><photo name="Top of Building" date="2001-03-29T12:25:17Z"><comment><p>The very summit of the building highlights the attention to detail that went into this building. In fact, one of the major repairs to the building in recent years was the renovation of the elevator mechanisms. This involved removing the motors from their housing on the top floor using a big crane, sending them to the east coast to be rebuilt, and then reinstalling them. This was done one elevator at a time to minimise the inconvenience to residents. Walking up 11 flights of stairs is not fun. I’ve had to do it a few times because of power failures and other elevator problems.</p></comment><image kind="original" src="originals/IMG_0853.JPG" srcURL="originals/IMG_0853.JPG" srcname="IMG_0853.JPG" size="730196" sizeText="0.7 MB" type="image"></image><image kind="image" src="images/IMG_0853.JPG" srcURL="images/IMG_0853.JPG" srcname="IMG_0853.JPG" size="730196" sizeText="0.7 MB" type="image" width="1600" height="1200"></image><image kind="thumbnail" src="thumbnails/IMG_0853.jpg" srcURL="thumbnails/IMG_0853.jpg" srcname="IMG_0853.jpg" size="26438" sizeText="25.8 KB" type="image" width="300" height="225"></image></photo><photo name="Lobby Ceiling, Front" date="2001-03-29T13:46:03Z"><comment><p>This photo shows the front part of the lobby ceiling.
