Glasgow Necropolis

I'm trying to be better about going to see the tourist sites for the city I'm living in. To that end, Erica and I went to visit the Glasgow necropolis, to take photos and generally explore. It made for a very interesting photo study. This is the first time I've filled my camera's memory since I upgrade to a 64 MB CompactFlash card!

Necropolis Panorama

This parorama shows the entire northern, eastern, and southern vista from the top of the necropolis. It's a composite of 9 individual images. Notice how the sunlight changes radically from left to right: that's Glasgow weather for you!

Monuments

This is a typical scene from the necropolis: a wall of monuments extending out into the distance.

Ross Monument

A particularly nice monument that photographed beatifully.

Where's Buffy?

Some parts of the necropolis look like they belong in Sunnydale.

Copper Relief

The copper detail on this (huge) monument was particularly striking.

Tennant's Tomb

I wonder whether he was related to Tennant's lager?

Cathedral

West of the necropolis is Glasgow cathedral. Visiting it is another item on my "tourism at home" agenda.

Industry

East of the necropolis is a variety of interesting industrial areas.

Leaves

Taken from the base of the necropolis, this photo shows the lovely autumn leaves.

Fill Flash, With...

I couldn't decide whether I preferred this photo with or without fill flash, so I included both. I love the way this shows monuments, leaves, grass, more monuments, and then random industrial buildings beyond the necropolis itself.

... or Without
